How to conduct an Investigation
Depending on whether you are doing a initial investigation or a full blown one, it will make a difference on how you proceed.
A Initial or Preliminary investigation should be done by basically one or 2 people, no more then 4. If you show up with a whole team, you might scare the people off from doing a full investigation. Most like their privacy and do not want others in the neighborhood to know what is going on. Remember some people do not understand and scoff at any talk of spirits or activity. One person should act as the "Team Leader" and lead the interview. Another one should take notes, possibly with a tape recorder after first asking permission to tape the interview
An interview should consist of asking what activity has been going on, family background, background of the house and property, and who the activity seems to center around. You might find that certain individuals draw more spirit activity then others. Sometimes it is better to separate family members as to not let one individual influence other members testimony.
1. Start out with a background of what has been happening and to whom in the house it happens to.
2. Does the activity seem to happen at a certain time of the month, day etc.?
3. Does anything that the owners (residents) do seem to precipitate an occurance. In example: Any remodeling, large parties, children visiting, certain individuals visiting etc.
4. Do the occupants feel threatened in any way?
5. What are the main occurances: Sounds, smells, lights, movement, cold spots?
After that you may decide to do an investigation or not depending what you find.
1. If you do decide to do an investigation, Ask first! Don't just start setting up your equipment. Make sure you have permission for everything you do. Some people will not like you just roaming around their house or property.
2. Decide on a time limit with the owners, so you don't over extend your stay.
3. Make sure you have permission to use any pictures, audio etc. before you publish them in any way. Privacy is important!!
4. Act professional! Remember your integrity is at stake here. Everything you do and say is judged by people. Also remember to watch your language.
