This case is not closed and still ongoing
On
January 31st, 2003, the primary investigation team was informed of a
house that had experienced some strange occurrences.
We
started our investigation in the normal manner by sitting down with the owners
and going over a standard series of questions.
The wife and husband had some good information that they shared with us
about the house. It was built in
1934, the ownership had changed hands approximately four times, some major
remodeling had been performed on the house before they had moved into the house
and at this time no other strange events have been connected to or related to
them about the house. Since taking
ownership of the house, there has been no history or evidence of water leaks in
the rooms under investigation. The
only major remodeling that has been conducted on the house since taking
ownership has been remodeling the attic to make it another living space.
The
wife first told us about a phenomenon that occurred to her while cleaning one
day in the winter time approximately a year after moving into the house. She
noticed that water had appeared on a dresser on two doilies which were
approximately 1 foot apart on a dresser that was 5 foot tall. Both spots of
water followed the outline and filled the spaces within the doilies. There were
no apparent water spots on ceiling, vents or other sources for the mysterious
water. Also, there was no splatter
or evidence of dripping and splashing as would be expected from drops of water.
It was as if the water had welled up from beneath the doilies themselves.
At the time, the incident was disregarded as nothing more than a strange
occurrence.
Next,
she communicated that the main event that prompted her to seek help in
investigating the house and events occurred shortly before contacting us for
help. One night while sleeping she
was awakened by an unknown, almost inaudible noise. Upon going to the bathroom and returning she woke her husband
when she noticed that the alarm clock was playing, much quieter than usual,
while the display was set to “0:00”. Her
husband turned the alarm clock volume down and went back to sleep. The next
morning when he inspected the alarm clock he noticed that the clock, TV remote
(which was on top of the alarm clock), and telephone cradle (which was next to
the alarm clock) had liquid in them. Interestingly enough, the telephone which
was in the cradle, was not filled with water and the end table that held these
items was apparently dry. Once
again there was no apparent reason for the mysterious liquid to be in these
appliances or where it originated. There
was actually enough liquid in the clock radio to pour onto the bed after being
picked up and inspected. They said
the liquid looked similar to water and the amount in the clock radio was
approximately a half cup. The
husband observed that the liquid was "milky colored", not clear, and
after further discussion felt that it was about the constancy of salt water.
The wife tasted the liquid and said it had no apparent taste.
The telephone and TV remote did not operate after the event.
As a result, they decided to replace all of the items as they were afraid
to use them due to the amount of liquid that they had been exposed to.
At this point, the wife decided to seek some advice.
During the investigation, upon closer inspection of the alarm clock and
telephone cradle, both devices exhibited extensive corrosion and signs of damage
caused by electrical shorts. This
seems consistent with the water damage described.
After reassembling the alarm clock, when power was reapplied to the
clock, the appliance still operated normally with the exception of the on / off
switch for the radio. The clock appeared to keep proper time, and the radio
appeared to tune correctly on both AM and FM, but the radio would not turn off
when set to the off position. This
was somewhat surprising considering some of the components on the printed wire
board were actually destroyed by the water damage.
Another interesting fact was that only the tops of the circuit cards
showed evidence of water damage (staining, oxidation, and shorts), while the
bottoms of the cards appeared for the most part untouched.
Some
other events that were discussed during the interview that the owners were not
positive whether or not they could be related to the above events included
strange problems with electrical appliances.
The wife conveyed a time when she was the only one awake in the house and
while preparing for work, she heard a TV turn on. This particular TV did not have a remote, but did have a
digital interface (the tuner, volume control, and on / off switch were push
buttons). Another issue that was
discussed dealt with electrical problems with one of their cars.
On evening, the car alarm went off even though the car was not locked.
This continued to happen through out the night with no apparent cause.
The
owners say they are not scared by the events and the wife feels that they may
even be messages to them. During
the interview, the wife told us that she had a cousin who had died while testing
his scuba gear one night almost 17 years earlier. She said she had been very close to this cousin and was
wondering if he was not trying to send her a message in some way.
She also added that she knew of a story of 2 young boys that had died in
a creek that ran behind they're house. It supposedly happened one winter that
the creek had risen and frozen over. The young boys had been walking home from
school and went out on the ice, fell through and subsequently died. The wife is
currently looking further into the story behind this tragic event.
At this time, no scientific reason has been found to explain the appearance of the liquid in these appliances. Pending further investigation, no conclusion can be made at this time. Pictures are below of the phone and the radio, both outer parts and inner workings to show how they were affected. By the way , only the top of the circuit boards were affected, not the bottoms

water marks on outside of the Clock Radio
A picture of the inside of the Clock Radio showing the damage inside. You can actually see the corrosion of the citcuits
This is the inside of the cordless telephone-Once again you can see the green colored corrosion on the circuit board
